The Glimmerglass Festival is a world-class performing arts company nestled on the beautiful shore of Otsego Lake. An internationally renowned summer festival, Glimmerglass is dedicated to producing new, little-known and familiar operas and works of music theater every July and August in new and innovative productions which capitalize on the intimacy and natural setting of the Alice Busch Opera Theater. The first season under new Artistic & General Director Francesca Zambello, the 2011 Festival features new productions of Bizet’s Carmen, Cherubini’s Medea, Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun and a double bill of two new operas highlighting American artists. The double bill features the world-premiere of A Blizzard On Marblehead Neck, a Glimmerglass-commissioned work about an episode in playwright Eugene O’Neill’s life by composer Jeanine Tesori and playwright Tony Kushner, and the professional premiere of John Musto and Mark Campbell’s acclaimed Later the Same Evening based on five Edward Hopper paintings. The four productions run in rotation in the Alice Busch Opera Theater, July 2 through August 23, 2011. Tickets start at $26 and range to $126. Artistic & General Director Zambello is a leading opera and theater director. In addition to her work at Glimmerglass, she serves as the Artistic Advisor of San Francisco Opera, where she is directing a new production of Wagner’s Ring cycle.
