Known as the birthplace of baseball, Cooperstown’s rich history of baseball goes back to the game’s early beginnings in the 19th century when the first game was played at Double Day Field. Because of this, Cooperstown is home to one of the top attractions in the country, The National Baseball Hall of Fame.
With over 40,000 three-dimensional artifacts in the Hall of Fame’s collection and three million library items that bring the history of baseball to life, each visitor can get a glimpse of what makes baseball special to them. A trip to Cooperstown isn’t complete until you’ve visited, so here’s how to plan your visit to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
When is the best time to visit?
While the museum is open year-round, seven days a week (except on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day), the spring and summer months are popular times to visit. Summer is the most crowded, while springtime affords visitors shorter lines and unique events such as Opening Day and the Cooperstown Classic.
The museum’s biggest event of the year is the Hall of Fame Weekend. Hosted in July, this popular event honors the members of the class before and welcomes the new inductees into the hall of fame. It’s the ultimate event for any baseball fan.
